Salt of Sodom
Genesis chapter 19, illustrated here by rendering verse 26. In this moment, Lot's wife is transformed. If you look closely at the figure's left foot, it is leaving just a small trail of salt on the ground in a smear, from the action of pivoting on her right foot as she swung around to see what was going on behind her. Simultaneously raising her arms in alarm at the sight. Time of day is actually during the morning light, but the stormy environment darkens the local area while the fire lights it up. God's presence only represented by the light areas in the clouds overhead. Artist's intent was to support the point of the episode rather than try to be organically exact.
Oil on stretched canvas. Size is 108x73 inches. Frame adds about 10 inches each way.
Painting is in private collection and was slated for placement before it was finished. Artist retains copyright and can provide reproductions, which are also available only via 1st gen owner of original art.
